Memoir Writing

Nayiri Baboudjian is an educator, writer, and storyteller, who grew up in Lebanon witnessing the civil war, countless assassinations, and explosions. An educator at heart, she has been teaching English Language and Literature for the past 18 years. She loves working with teenagers, empowering them, and coaching them to become better versions of themselves. She writes to soothe the banalities of living in a war zone, which more recently has also become a hub of economic meltdown. She is currently working on her memoir which includes stories about growing up in a multiple trauma land, being a caregiver to both her parents and taboo issues associated with body image, and mental health.

 

Presenter: Zena El Khalil

Zena El Khalil is a Lebanese artist, writer, and activist. Her work and interests range from writing to art to yoga. During the 2006 invasion of Lebanon, Zena was one of the first largely followed Middle Eastern bloggers. Her writings were published on the BBC, CNN, and Der Spiegel. Her memoir, “Beirut I love you,” was published in 2008 and tells the story of Zena, a young woman who attempts to come to terms with her role among her friends, family, and city amid the intoxication of Beirut’s contradictions during the 2006 invasion.
